FAR FAR AWAY - A Modern Fairy Tale

Fairy tales are so en vogue right now, and I'll be the first to say that I am very very into this trend.  I've always loved fairy tales, and the public's new interest in the darker originals of these stories is even more exciting.  TV producers of shows like Grimm and Once upon a Time have jumped on the fairy tale bandwagon, and authors have started to do the same over the past few years.

Jeremy Johnson Johnson is a down-on-his-luck outcast in the small, American town of Never Better.  Nothing seems out of the ordinary in this unassuming village, but Jeremy has a secret talent that sets him apart; he has his own personal ghost.  Jeremy is the only person in town who can hear the voice of Jacob Grimm, and as a result Jacob watches over Jeremy and helps steer him out of trouble.  But when Jeremy becomes involved in a web of deceit and darkness, he and Jacob must work together to achieve a happy ending like those in stories of the brothers Grimm.

Tom McNeal's Far Far Away is a modern twist on some of the old fairy tale tropes we are all accustomed to.  This book has it all: a little romance, an innocent victim, a villain, and a lesson in the end. What makes this story really great is the way McNeal weaves the fantastic, realistic, and downright macabre into his narrative.
